Caramel Spiced Apples – Crockpot Desert

spiced apples

1 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground cloves
5 medium red apples – cut in half and cored
1/2 cup apple juice
1 tbs fresh squeezed lemon juice
2/3 cup caramel ice cream topping
toasted, chopped pecans

Combine the cinnamon and cloves.  Place half of the apples in the crock pot and sprinkle with the cinnamon mixture.  Add the remaining apples and sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon mixture.  Pour the apple juice and lemon juice over the apples.  Stir to coat apples.

Cover and cook on low for 2.5 – 3 hours, stirring about half way through the cook time.
Spoon apples and cooking liquid into individual serving bowls.  Drizzle with the caramel topping and sprinkle with pecans.

** If the apples are not sweet, you may want to sprinkle a little bit of sugar (we prefer sugar in the raw) on top of them when you put them in the crock pot to cook.
